Monday 11th

 Today we read “Fences” a play covering colored people’s lives in the 50s. I enjoy this play so far and the characters all have interesting personalities. I look forward to reading more. We also talked about how the main character Troy’s actions influence bono and his wife rose. It shows that Troy is a heavy drinker, and a big talker. I wonder if this could be foreshadowing something happening in the future.

 Today we read more of “fences”. We analyzed the text and talked about how we as students would feel being out on the street as 14 year old’s. We also tried to put ourselves in the characters shoes. We read that even in the north parts of America during the time, it was hard for a young black person to get a job.  Crime and poverty is always connected.

Tuesday 17

 Today we presented our projects again and I learned more about the different Latin American countries. I did my project on the Dominican Republic and I found it interesting that most Latin American countries practice catholicism as their main religion. I am excited to move onto a new unit in English focusing on different Latin American, authors and texts.
